To learn

We are young,

we live fast,

and every time we think

we’re finally beginning to understand

we find more

that makes no sense,

that baffles us utterly

and we find ourselves

running to catch up.

Myself, I’ve learned one thing:

so long as you know everything

and you have all the answers

you know just enough

to mislead yourself with all you have:

dreams of fortune and glory.

It is with a frown that I write:

“Alas, here my words of wisdom end.”

Modesty is a virtue that cannot be taught,

yet I now realise I am not a sage,

I now realise I am not wise…

but I’m learning.
