Oblivion, revisited

I overhear these two complete strangers

talking about how grandpa loses touch with the present,

his mind releasing itself

from all that the soul wishes to retain.

Some nameless stranger asks me to write

about years, a summer, long gone

of which I forgot too much

to remember what I forgot

except that there was

that I was understood

once

and more than not alone.
